Listening Across Cultures

Well, I could not avoid it. It was bound to happen. In my clinical interviewing class today we had a guest speaker talking about cultural sensitivity during intake interviews. To be fair, the speaker was interesting, engaging, non-confrontational and generally quite pleasant. She had some interesting things to say about what to look for when dealing with patients who are from other cultures. I did not agree with every part of her approach, and my objections and challenges, which I made politely and without malicious intent were responded to in kind. I wanted to depict this fairly.
